WHFS (Women’s Health & Family Services) is a multi-cultural, community health charity. Based in Tower Hamlets, we focus on health and empowerment issues for disadvantaged women and their families, in the most deprived East London communities. We tackle unequal access to healthcare through awareness-raising, campaigning, advocacy, and the provision of relevant health services. We concentrate our efforts on empowering women as the most effective route to addressing family and community health inequalities. Our flagship doula programme, Maternity Mates™, and other key projects on Diabetes and Cancer Awareness, as well as our work in the community on Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM /C), are ground-breaking in their approach to reaching vulnerable women and their families. Our projects are effective and sustainable because they are delivered by trained, supported volunteers who are drawn from our local (primarily Bangladeshi, Somali, Vietnamese and Chinese) communities. Established in 1981, our strength comes from our deep community roots and working cross culturally. Maternity Mates™ is the registered trademark of WHFS (Women's Health & Family Services).
