Walsall Council is a Metropolitan Borough Local Authority in the West Midlands with around 7,500 employees (including education) and a constitution of 20 wards and 60 elected members. Environment: Walsall has 535 green spaces covering over 2,160 hectares which makes up nearly 25% of the total area of the borough. Much of Walsall’s green space is natural and semi-natural which accounts for 45% of all green space by area. Parks and gardens cover more than 200 hectares, nearly 13% of all green space by area. Housing: There are approximately 117,000 households in Walsall which is an increase of 9.3% or 10,000 households since 2011. Ethnicity: Walsall is a culturally diverse place where people of Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi origin form the largest ethnic minority groups. According to the 2011 census, while ‘White British’ is the largest single group, 23% are from an ethnic minority (Source: ONS).
